Welder`s profession is associated in most cases with big clumsy iron sheets, reinforcement structures arousing in person hardly ever any positive emotions. And when being outside and seeing welding works we try to look aside as soon as possible off too bright light of a welding unit. It is difficult to imagine at those moments that simple joining of metal pieces may turn into real work of art however one should add taste and imagination as it was with Grigoriy Dochkin, a welder of Electric Welding Institute named after E.Paton. Grigoriy Dochkin has been working in the Institute since 1978 and devoted all his life to his hobby.
It is a complicated thing today to count anew all types and processes of welding: on the ground and outer space, under water and in vacuum, macro and micro-welding, and many others.
Grigoriy Dochkin is a head of a school for welders at Paton Institute which specializes in welding technique. But many years ago he extended the bounds of his main activity and began another one let us call it fancy welding. His passion began from the time when young specialist had to weld individual parts made of titanium for cosmic «lunar vehicle». While selecting various welding modes he noticed such property of a material as change of color depending on heating temperature.
This discovery stroke Grigoriy and from that moment small pieces of metal in hands of G.Dochkin began turning in various works of sculpture looking like miniature insects, animals, flowers. Imparting different coloration and refined forms to these compositions the expert with the high level of handicraft managed to turn hobby into professional trade by working out his personal welding practice; and today he has students to whom he passed on his skills.
Master`s collection strikes foreign guests visiting Institute. Some his works were presented to them. Thus G.Dochkin`s works are famous and are a pleasure to the eye not only in our country but abroad as well. There are no uninteresting professions. Everything depends on person`s ability to comprehend his work properly, display creative initiative. Grigoriy Dochkin made his work to be interesting and unusual both for himself and for others.
